Crash Bandicoot 2 Cortex Strikes Back is a platform video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment in 1997. It is the second installment in the Crash Bandicoot series and a sequel to the original game. The game follows the adventures of Crash Bandicoot, who has superhuman abilities, as he tries to prevent the world from being taken over by the evil scientist Dr. Neocortex. The game takes place after the events of the first Crash Bandicoot. Dr. Neocortex, the main antagonist, has returned with a plan to steal the crystals that Crash collected in the previous game.
Cortex's plan is to use the crystals to power a massive laser that will destroy the Earth and rebuild it in his own image. Aware of Cortex's plan, Crash must once again thwart Cortex's evil plans by collecting the crystals before Cortex can get his hands on them. Along the way, Crash must battle Cortex's loyal forces, including the evil Doctor's niece, Nina Cortex. The gameplay is similar to the first version, with significant improvements.
The player controls Crash and guides him through 25 levels, each with its own unique challenges and obstacles. Crash can run, jump, and spin through the levels, fight enemies, and collect boxes that contain power-ups and items. The game also introduces new abilities, such as the Body Slam move, which allows Crash to break certain boxes and defeat enemies. The levels are divided into five different worlds, each with a theme and a set of challenges.
