Like FIFA 18, Cristiano Ronaldo appeared as the cover athlete of the regular edition: however, a new cover was released following his unexpected transfer from Real Madrid to Juventus. He also appeared with Neymar on the cover of the Champions Edition. As of February 2019, updated versions of Neymar, Kevin De Bruyne and Paulo Dybala have appeared on the cover of the regular edition. The game features UEFA club competitions for the first time, including the Champions League and Europa League, as well as the UEFA Super Cup. Martin Tyler and Alan Smith return as regular commentators, while new commentary team Derek Rae and Lee Dixon feature in UEFA Tournament Mode.
Composer Hans Zimmer and rapper Vince Staples recorded a new remix of the UEFA Champions League anthem specifically for the game. The character Alex Hunter, who first appeared in FIFA 17, returned for the third and final installment of the "Journey", titled "Journey: Champions". In June 2019, a free update added the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup final to the starting mode. It is the last FIFA game to be available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and the last known game from a major studio to be physically available for PlayStation 3 worldwide.
